Welcome to The Bookmark~ your new go-to space for resources to support your writing journey!

My name is Emily, and I am the founder of this blog. I invite you to explore what the site and social media accounts have to offer as you tackle all of your creative projects. "What is The Bookmark?"

The Bookmark, in its simplest form, is a blog BY a writer FOR a writer. I fully understand how overwhelming, confusing, and difficult it can be to start your writing journey, commit to it, and find all the answers to your burning questions. That in mind, I'm here to lend a hand- to read between the lines, discover all the best tips & tricks and provide you with the best, research-backed writing advice to set you ahead.

The Bookmark Blog posts

Sound like your thing? Stick around, I've got more coming your way!

"What inspired The Bookmark?"

Imagine this: you're sitting at your desk. Your laptop's blank screen has been glaring at you for hours, and you've only written one sentence... then deleted it. You have so much to say about your new book idea, but the more it swarms your head, the quieter your thoughts get. And just in case their luck rubs off on you, your favorite books are sprawled out in front of you, cluttered with inspired annotations that you could never imagine your story measuring up to.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that most of us didn't have to imagine that hard to relate to this. Being a new writer is DIFFICULT work and a very intimidating thing to tackle alone. The good thing is that we don't have to. I'm a student and a researcher at heart. When I start something new, I turn to my questions and their answers to light my path forward. This ended up being a fantastic way to start my journey as a writer because asking questions are what make us masters at what we do! I began to notice that asking the right questions about the writing and publishing industry and finding the right resources to strengthen my skills led to success and progress as a writer.

Knowing how difficult it is to get started on your path to writing, it's my goal to provide you with the encouragement and support that you need to push through the overwhelming knowledge gaps and catalyze your success.

"So, what can this blog do for me?"

"What are your qualifications?"

My writing journey began long before I chose it as a career path. From a very young age, I felt a natural calling to the pen and page- to the characters of all worlds and storytelling of all formats. Looking back on my career path now, it is clear where my subconscious mind was leading me.

Though I chose a college education in Marketing, I never ignored my passion for the written word, explaining my minor in Writing. Throughout college, I had not taken traditional business internships like the other business majors. Instead, my resume accumulated perspectives in areas of publishing, magazine writing, advertising, social media, the user experience, entrepreneurship, and film. At first, I saw myself as not having the right portfolio and experience for marketing work. However, I came to realize that the reason I involved myself in these diverse endeavors was for their shared elements of communication, expression, creativity, and storytelling.

Funnily enough, shortly after graduating, I found myself working in communications for a large retail brand that capitalizes on their strengths in storytelling and branding.

"How often can I expect new content?"

To ensure that I am collecting the most relevant insight for you and communicating it in a applicable format, my goal is to publish a new and easy to follow blog post once a week. Though I will mostly be sticking to this routine, I'm eager to share all of the fantastic resources, advice, and support that I can. This in mind, I'll be leaning on The Bookmark social media accounts to post regular content as well.

You can find links to The Bookmark social media accounts displayed throughout the website, so be sure to follow and support our growing community! Additionally, don't forget to subscribe so you don't miss out on the fresh blog posts coming to you weekly!

"How can I get involved?"

The best ways to connect with our community is to subscribe and follow our social media accounts! Regular content will be posted on all platforms to ensure that you are being surrounded with the things you need to succeed.

Another important note to make: I would love to hear about what content you would like to see on the blog or social media channels! On the home page, you can find a space to submit your ideas, which will not only bring you and our community the content you crave, it will also support The Bookmark in return! Additionally, sharing our platforms with your friends and on your social platforms would be highly appreciated as referrals are the best way to connect with those in similar communities. I hope to see you in my inbox and comment sections!

"How can I make the best of these resources?"

Writing is an incredibly personal journey. Feel completely free to use blog posts, citations, tips, prompts, and it's other material however you need to be the most profitable writer! With each blog post, I will often provide a relevant quote or the option to do an individual writing challenge, that will relate to the material. These are for you to reflect on in your own time if you find them helpful for your writing style and rhythm!

But just because writing is a personal journey, that doesn't mean you have to do it alone. Matter of fact, I encourage you not to! With community comes the potential for shared experiences, positive feedback, beta readers, and friendships. Connect with other writers in the comment section of the blogs, interact with other followers on our social media accounts- even form writing groups! The options are endless. I only ask that- no matter how you apply this information to your writing- you would also use it to encourage both yourself and others. Remember that no matter where someone is on their writing journey, encouragement and the sharing of helpful resources will always catalyze success!
